Malayan Banking Berhad has introduced Savings+, a money market investment feature within its MAE app that lets customers begin investing with as little as RM10. The launch gives Maybank’s existing mobile banking base direct access to a Shariah-compliant money market fund without needing a separate investment platform.

Key Facts At A Glance

  • Minimum initial investment is RM10, with no maximum placement amount
  • Funds go into the Maybank Retail Money Market-I Fund, a Shariah-compliant fund managed by Maybank Asset Management
  • Potential returns of up to 3.32% per annum, based on performance as at June 30, 2026, and not guaranteed
  • Returns are calculated daily and credited monthly
  • No lock-in period; investments and withdrawals typically process within an average of two business days
  • Users must complete onboarding and a Suitability Assessment before investing
  • Available to Maybank customers in Malaysia aged 18 and above, new and existing

A Low-Barrier Entry Point For Everyday Investors

Maybank positioned Savings+ as a way to make investing as routine as everyday banking. Customers access the feature directly within the MAE app they already use, avoiding the friction of opening an account on a separate investment platform. The underlying fund invests in relatively short-term, liquid assets, structured to preserve capital while offering a regular income stream in line with Shariah principles.

Mohd Amri bin Mohd Sofian, Head of Community Financial Services Malaysia at Maybank, said the bank wants investing to feel as simple and accessible as everyday banking, and that Savings+ lets customers begin their investment journey from just RM10 while managing their money within the app they use daily.

To start, customers complete a Unit Trust Account application and a Suitability Assessment within the app, both approved instantly for new applicants, before making their first placement. From there, they can track fund performance and set up automatic monthly contributions.

Positioned Among Maybank’s Broader MAE Investment Lineup

Savings+ joins a growing set of investment products already available on MAE, including the Maybank Islamic Gold Account-i, Maybank Goal-Based Investment, and ASNB Investment. The addition extends Maybank’s push to embed wealth-building tools directly into its digital banking app rather than routing customers to standalone investment products.

Maybank has been explicit that Savings+ is an investment product, not a savings or deposit account, meaning funds placed through it are not covered by PIDM deposit insurance the way a conventional savings account would be. Returns are not guaranteed and will vary with market conditions and fund performance. Customers are advised to review the fund’s Product Highlights Sheet, prospectus, and terms and conditions before investing.
